I have set the directive to start journalling about fitness. I want to turn my life around, get fit and healthy, and live an extra hundred years, give or take.

I start on Monday at the gym, which I would have started earlier, but I have been sick this week.

On the one hand, I am driven to do this; on the other, I have not kicked into gear; I enjoy lying down and focusing on my other interests, like coding and TV.

It would be so easy to let entropy take over while I slide into an early death, oh the comfort; until the rot takes over at least.

I am far too comfortable and planning on becoming more active. I've been there before; I'm in the planning stage, which is dangerous because no real action has been taken, and this active future seems so hard and painful. Only through action can we overcome the inertia and resistance of the undertaking.

Then, when we fall off the donkey, which we will, as we do, we have to have the fortitude to get back on the donkey before we seize up and slow down, at which point we are back at square one, the lounge is too soft, and the task is too burdensome, maybe tomorrow we say, maybe tomorrow.

My first week in my new life as someone who puts health and fitness first is a total bust. Not this week Toby Macquire.

It was a comedy of errors; yesterday, things happened, and exercise didn't happen; Monday was day one; I can't even remember what happened there, but the gym wasn't it. Today, it has been squeezed out by other priorities, despite the fact that, in principle, getting in the reps is my primary objective.

Next week may be the time when I overcome my mental hurdles, put on my big boy pants, and get down to the gymnasium for a sweat session; fatty doesn't want to, fatties too comfortable, fatty intends to do other things.

After being sick last week, I feel surprisingly energetic despite the lung slugs I'm still coughing up and the Clag glue that fills the tissue when I blow my nose every couple of hours.

Despite this energy, I'm still prioritising projects and comfort. Next week it'll happen, surely.

I've built an Android app and worked out how to connect one of my three Bluetooth earphones. I had never worked out how to pair them before.

The app is for working out but can be used on the way to the gym; it's just a randomised loop of four hundred fitness affirmations.

The app uses text-to-speech technology built into most web applications and spits an affirmation every 7 seconds.

You can change the gap-length between affirmations, but I've set the default to seven, and I'll see how that goes. It also has the option of playing workout music in the background or sounds that sync to your brain frequency; I don't know whether it is hokum or helpful, but the option is there; you can also play no background sounds and have the affirmations alone.

If the app is helpful to me, I will throw it on the Google Play app store.

GymBud is based on another app I made for sitting at your desk or a table and meditating; it has similar features. I've been using iterations of the app over the last two years and find it works well.

I 'WILL' start my new life, but not today. Mum's dog died yesty. So I'll go out and see her instead.
